The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ridevon Mark Caplan - English trainer, Gastautor
After many months of preparation the Gentlemen of Southern Germany were ready to ride for a great cause. Machines were oiled and polished, suits and ties were ironed and the route had been carefully planned. The Baden group including myself and Rainer Weller from Schöck rode to Heidelberg on a wonderful sunny morning to meet up with the rest of the riders.
Over 100 gentlemen riders (and many ladies) started out from Heidelberg and everybody was dressed for the occasion.
Even my bike was ready thanks to Nicole Welsch from Schöck who found me a moustache made for motorbikes in Dublin (I didn’t know they existed). There were men in suits, ladies in evening gowns and even one man in a kilt. The ride took us through Mannheim to the castle and water tower, through the “Altstadt” and back to Heidelberg where the tourists couldn’t believe their eyes as all the bikes rolled in and there wasn’t a black leather jacket in sight.
It was a truly amazing day and everyone had a fantastic time. I must thank the organizers, the riders, the local police who kindly allowed us to ride through all the traffic lights (even the red ones) and most of all the fantastic people from Schöck who sponsored me and helped so much that I raised over 700 Euro and enabled the DGR to raise SIX TIMES LAST YEAR’S TOTAL, a truly incredible $1,500,000 for cancer research.
If you didn’t get a chance to sponsor me there is still one week left to do so by going to www.gentlemansride.com/rider/markc.
I’ll be showing the pictures of the ride to everyone who sponsored me but here are just a few so you can get an idea of how great it really was.
Oh and next year? Why don’t we have our own event in Baden-Baden?
