Recently I had the opportunity to visit two job sites with Ekaterina Tropynina. We had originally planned to visit Sarnia Road again for a follow up, but eventually went to Fairway Bridge in Kitchener, as well.

Am Mittwoch dem 14.12.2011 wurden die Tunnelbohrarbeiten für die neue U-Bahnstrecke der Wehrhahn-Linie in Düsseldorf beendet. Zu dem groß angekündigten Ereignis fanden sich neben dem Düsseldorfer Oberbürgermeister und jeder Menge Pressevertreter auch rund 150 interessierte Bürger an der Baustelle ein, so dass die besten Plätze früh vergeben waren und großes Gedränge am Bauzaun herrschte.

2011 may have started off slowly but has roared to a finish. As we head into 2012, we anticipate being very busy in the upcoming year. We have plenty of new jobs in the books and signs look very positive for the future. The Canadian economy has fared better than most countries, seeming to escape the downturns and negative outlooks. Our Ontario and Federal governments are still focused on moving steadily ahead with our infrastructures to create safe highways, bridges and local roads and to modernize public transit. All of these projects require the use of GFRP and we are pleased to be part of it.

In der Landeshauptstadt Berlin fand in diesem Jahr vom 06. – 08. Dezember die STUVA Tagung statt. Es hatten sich hierfür rund 1.400 Teilnehmer angemeldet. Für die öffentliche Ausstellung zwischen den Fachvorträgen waren ca. 130 Aussteller vertreten.

Im Mai 2010 bekam das Team ComBAR® in Kanada mal eine richtig schöne Anfrage auf den Tisch, zum ersten Mal seit 1963 sollte eine neue Brücke über den Grand River zwischen Kitchener und Cambridge geschlagen werden. Bisher endete die Fairway Road in Kitchener an einer Flussbiegung des Grand River, die neue Brücke soll die Verbindung zwischen den drei Städten Kitchener, Cambridge und Guelph erheblich verbessern und die stark ausgelastete Autobahn vom stadtnahen Verkehr entlasten.

Die Karte zeigt anscheinend eine neue Brücke zwischen zwei bebauten/erschlossenen Gebieten. Das aber sah bei unserem Besuch der Baustelle etwas anders aus. weiter lesen …

Christian Witt visited Vancouver in September. On 20 September, he gave a presentation on GFRP to the local ACI chapter.  Approximately 45 members, mostly concrete contractors and engineers, listened with great interest (in spite of the preceding scrumptious dinner) to his words on design, fabrication and use of GFRP reinforcement of concrete.  weiter lesen …

We have made our presence again, this time in Edmonton at the TAC show. It was a 3 day event with exhibitors and presentations. Ekaterina presented Professor Khaled Sennah’s findings on the crash test performed in Texas for the PL-3 barrier. We were delighted that we had at least 100 participants attend our presentation. Based on the number that attended, there is a definite interest in our product’s performance. Ekaterina did an amazing job as presenter and exhibited confidence and her knowledge of ComBAR®.

What can I say about my two month internship here at Schöck? Overall, it has been an incredible and rewarding experience. A financial mathematics student from Waterloo, Canada, I was looking to continue to gain valuable office work experience through summer employment. However, I was also looking to spend a summer abroad in Germany to reconnect with my German heritage through living in Germany and immersing myself in the culture and language. I was thrilled when the opportunity arose to be able to combine both of those goals through working here at Schöck and living in Baden-Baden.
